Standard 8: Instructional Strategies
The Interstate Teacher and Support Consortium (InTASC) standard eight is significant as it revolves around instructional strategies to use in the classroom. Its purpose is to provide insight on how to use and pick effective instructional strategies in the classroom. I will discuss how the Intergrated Reading and Writing (IRW) paragraph puzzle, editing and revision stations, and blooket game reviews successfully demonstrate standard eighth of instructional strategies.
IRW Paragraph Puzzle: To practice organizing the parts of an essay, students put together a deconstructed sample essay. Students worked together in pairs to put the paragraphs in the correct order. This activity fostered friendly competition as students raced to successfully complete the puzzle; the first team to have a fully correct puzzle received a sticker. This demonstrated standard seven as I chose a fun instructional strategy that would help students understand why the organization of an essay is important. This served as a scaffolding method as students worked on organizing their essay template into a final essay.
Editing and Revising Stations: During the Intergrated Reading and Writing (IRW) unit, I used stations for students to review editing and revision in the writing process. Stations is an effective instructional strategy for this review as students were able to go over and practice different aspects of editing, revision, and citations. After completing the station work, students were better prepared to edit and revise their own papers.
Blooket Reviews: Blooket games are an easy and quick way to review content. Playing in classic mode requires students to focus on the question rather than the competitive, fast paced modes. I used Blooket as formative assessments to gage what students still need to review on. This demonstrates standard eight as Blookets are a fun and engaging way for students to review content.
